HEALING THROUGH ARCHITECTURE

January 22 - February 22, 2022

The Healing Through Architecture program at the Virtual School of Architecture, Myanmar, was held remotely, allowing students from all around the country to take part and learn about the field of architecture. The program was conducted on the new design methodologies approach, human sciences, and architecture to bring opportunities for the students participating from the many locations across the nation.  Our community of faculty members is based in various locations around the world. The curriculum and special lectures presented throughout the program and courses were open to all students interested in architecture.

This four-week program allowed students to collaborate with architecture enthusiasts from all over the community who are at varying levels of undergraduate education. The groups worked with their respective instructors to develop their design skills in the online studio, lectures, desk crits, and studio reviews during the course of the program.

SYNOPSIS

Our emotional and physical well-being have become products of our buildings, neighborhoods, and cities. This well-known fundamental concept is gaining traction throughout the disciplines involved in designing and managing the built environment.

Despite the fact that a number of scientific disciplines have drawn attention to human spatial experience and the link between people and their environs at the spatiotemporal dimension, it is merely a small topic in our Myanmar architecture community. The topic of how we might assist in the reconstruction of the nation from its ruins, as well as how to handle the psychological trauma of the people, must be explored and addressed.

The purpose of this workshop is to identify potential solutions for our people within the rubric of the theme "Healing Through Architecture." We will explore together what healing architecture is and how to design with a trauma-informed perspective. We will also exercise on several design scales according to the student’s preferences and interests. This program has also been meticulously designed to vivify the underlying talents and creativity of the students, enabling them to display their works in the context of an emotional healing narrative.
